Give your Blundstone Shoes the love they deserve!
Although our shoes are designed to be very durable, it is important to take care of them and thus prolong their life and shine.
Our footwear is made from leather with different finishes, suede, nubuck and canvas. Each pair of footwear requires special care to keep it clean.
Keeping the soles of your Blundstone shoes clean is also an integral part of their care. By doing so, you will avoid the occurrence of permanent stains and minimise the possibility of damage to your favourite shoes.
Follow our tips below to take proper care of your Blundstone shoes.
Leather cleaning
- First, remove dried dirt from your shoes with a soft brush or damp cloth and let your shoes dry. Make sure your shoes lie away from direct sunlight or heaters so that the leather does not dry out.
- Apply shoe polish, spray or leather cream to help maintain your shoes. If you are using the product for the first time, try it on an invisible area of the shoe to see if it changes color or shape.
- When using paste, apply a small amount to a cloth or polishing brush and rub into the shoe in a circular motion.
- Wipe off excess paste and allow to dry again.
- Pay attention to the leather finishes and, once dry, polish with a brush to create a shine.
Cleaning Suede
- Use a suede brush to scrape off any stains or dirt.
- If you have any scratch marks, you can remove them with an eraser. Simply rub the scratches with the eraser and wipe off the rubber crumbs.
- Wet a suede brush with water and apply a small amount of suede and leather cleaner to the brush. Then clean the shoe, paying particular attention to the soiled areas.
- Wipe your shoes with a clean towel to remove excess moisture and allow to dry.
- Once dry, apply a water and stain protection spray to your shoes to prolong their life.
- It is a good idea to treat your shoes regularly to protect the leather from stains. If the leather is wet, allow it to dry naturally before cleaning or using any cleaning products.
Cleaning Nubuck
- Use a dry nubuck cloth to remove any dirt. Then gently brush out with the nubuck brush. Use a circular motion, being careful not to spend more than a few seconds in one spot.
- If you have any scratch marks, you can remove them with an eraser. Simply rub the scratches with the eraser and wipe off the rubber crumbs. Alternatively, try a spray cleaner for nubuck and then wipe the area with a nubuck cloth. It is important to follow the application instructions for the products and ensure that they have been tested before more extensive use on a small area of footwear.
- Wipe your shoes with a clean towel to remove excess moisture and allow to dry.
- Apply a nubuck cleaner to the shoe to enhance water and stain resistance to prolong the life of the shoes.
- It is a good idea to treat your shoes regularly to protect the leather from stains. If the leather is wet, allow it to dry naturally before cleaning or using any cleaning products.
Cleaning the Sole
- Remove dirt or other debris from shoes.
- Use a stiff nylon brush to clean the tread surface to remove excess dirt. If this is not enough, place the shoes in a shallow bath/bowl of warm water for two hours. Again use a stiff nylon brush to remove dirt.
- Finally, to clean completely, use a damp cloth before allowing the shoes to dry naturally.
Additional guidance
- Never dry shoes over an open flame or with an artificial heat source, as this will cause the leather to harden, shrink and crack. It may even cause the leather to detach from the sole. Always dry shoes naturally at room temperature.
- Always store your shoes in a well-ventilated, cool place, away from sunlight or any heat that could tarnish the leather.
- You should use a leather shoe conditioner whenever the need arises. If your shoes are looking a little scuffed and worn, always remember to apply conditioner.
- Similarly, you should use a protector on your suede shoes when they look worn and also before putting them on on a rainy or sunny day.
- Avoid exposing your shoes to contamination with chemicals. Solvents, strong acids and alkalis cause irreversible damage to the skin, but ordinary substances such as milk and salt are also very harmful. In the event of staining, shoes should be cleaned immediately.
- Only use cleaning products of good quality and intended for the shoe material.
